Ryan Carr, cutting his teeth at St George Illawarra Dragons, is hunting at major role in Castleford Tigers next season. There’s talk flying left and right, whispers involving a top player, and behind closed doors, plans are quietly brewing that could turn the club upside down… but exactly what’s coming? That’s still anyone’s…

Castleford Tigers have officially confirmed the appointment of Australian coach Ryan Carr as the club’s new Head Coach for the 2026 Betfred Super League season, marking the beginning of what many hope will be a transformative chapter in the club’s modern history.

The announcement—made on 21 August 2025—has been met with enthusiasm from fans and club officials alike, as the Tigers look to rebuild, re-energize, and reposition themselves for long-term success. Carr, aged 37, has agreed to a three-year deal, signaling the club’s confidence in his long-term vision and coaching philosophy.

Currently serving as an assistant coach at St George Illawarra Dragons under renowned NRL head coach Shane Flanagan, Carr brings with him a wealth of experience from both hemispheres. His résumé includes influential coaching stints with Featherstone Rovers, Leeds Rhinos, Parramatta Eels, and St George, giving him a unique blend of UK and Australian rugby league expertise.

Carr expressed genuine excitement about joining Castleford, noting the club’s legacy, potential, and passionate fan base. Speaking this morning, he said:

> “It’s an exciting opportunity. It’s a proud, historic club is Cas, and I’m aware of where the club’s been, where it came from, and where it’s going. I feel a lot of excitement about the direction that the club is heading in the near future. It deserves to be better than where it is, and that’s where we need to take it. I feel the opportunity and the room for growth is really fast at the club – I’m excited to get started.”

Carr’s appointment comes at a crucial time for Castleford, who have expressed a clear desire to rebuild following several challenging seasons. His arrival is expected to bring not only tactical refinement but also a renewed sense of identity and ambition.

Director of Rugby Chris Chester, who led the recruitment and selection process, described Carr as the ideal candidate to drive the club forward. Chester praised his background, commitment, and analytical mind, noting that Carr’s coaching pedigree stood out from the competition.

> “I’m delighted to announce the signing of Ryan Carr,” Chester said. “Ryan is an experienced coach, having worked in the UK with Featherstone, Leeds, and in the NRL with Parramatta and St George. He’s a highly thought-about coach who has a great knowledge of the game and a great work ethic. I can’t wait to start working with Ryan to make sure we get the Castleford Club where it needs to be.”

Club insiders say Carr impressed during interviews with his detailed plans for player development, game structure, and long-term squad evolution. His ability to blend youth development with disciplined senior leadership was a significant deciding factor.

Supporters have reacted positively on social media, with many praising the club for making a bold and forward-thinking appointment. The Tigers community has long expressed the desire for fresh ideas and stability, and Carr’s arrival appears to meet that expectation.

As he prepares to transition from the NRL to West Yorkshire, Carr is expected to begin strategic planning immediately, even before officially joining for preseason ahead of 2026. Key areas of focus will include strengthening the squad, reinforcing defensive structures, and reestablishing the Tigers as a formidable presence in the Super League.

With a new head coach, renewed purpose, and a clear long-term vision, Castleford Tigers now enter the coming months with optimism. If Carr’s record and energy are any indication, the 2026 season may mark the beginning of a powerful resurgence for the club.
