Long before theย New York Yankeesย were eliminated from the playoffs via a 5-2 home loss to theย Toronto Blue Jaysย in the American League Division Series on Wednesday night, pockets of Yankees fans called on team owner Hal Steinbrenner to dismiss manager Aaron Boone.
While speaking with reporters after the Yankees’ latest postseason disappointment, Boone indicated he has no reason to believe he’ll be going anywhere this fall.
Does Aaron Boone expect to stay with Yankees?
“Iโm under contract, so I donโt expect anything,” Boone said, perย Greg Joyceย of the New York Post.
Boone signedย a two-year contract extension that runs through the 2027 season back in February of this year. Yankees captain Aaron Judge hasย repeatedly backed Booneย amid constant criticisms from members of the fan base, andย Boone hasย guided the club to seven playoff appearances in eight years.
Most notably, the 2024 Yankees completed a trip to the World Series before they fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games. That said, the fact that the Bronx Bombers still haven’t won a Fall Classic since 2009 doesn’t sit well with fans who expect better from the storied franchise.
Before Wednesday’s game got underway, MLB insiderย Jon Heymanย of Bleacher Report shared that “Boone’s job feels ‘safe.'” Meanwhile, Yankees senior vice president and general manager Brian Cashman isย under contractย through next season.
On Thursday morning,ย Bob Klapischย of NJ Advance Media directly said that “Boone isnโt getting fired this winter,” in part “because Cashman remains fiercely loyal” to the skipper.
Aaron Boone wants another “chance at glory” with Yankees
“I know for me personally, I know for a lot of those guys, it also continues to ignite your fire to want to get back and play in these meaningful games and have a chance at glory,” Boone continued following Wednesday’s result. Perย Scott Polacekย of Bleacher Report, Boone added that he is “confident we’ll break through” as soon as next year.
“I have been every year,” Boone explained about his mindset. “And I believe in so many of the people in that room. That hasn’t changed. The fire hasn’t changed. It’s hard to win a World Series.”
If the Yankees are to win the World Series roughly 12 months from now, it appears they’ll have to do so with Boone and Cashman running the show.
