Fowler noted that trading Wilson will be a “difficult task” for Denver given the 35-year-old’s enormous contract, but the Broncos are likely to part ways with Wilson either through a trade or outright release.It was pretty clear the Broncos had given up on Wilson when they fired him with two games left in the regular season. They’ll still take a huge financial hit if they cut him, but starting Jarrett Stidham over Wilson ensured the injury guarantee in Wilson’s contract didn’t kick in, even though Payton insisted it was a football decision.Payton said in the days leading up to the Super Bowl that the Broncos need to evaluate whether they feel they can improve the quarterback position in the draft or free agency.
