Colleton County deputies are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred on Monday night in Walterboro, South Carolina. According to the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the area of Cleveland Street. Upon arrival, they discovered an adult male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to provide medical assistance, the victim later succumbed to his injuries. The Colleton County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the identity of the deceased.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting stemmed from an argument inside a home on Cleveland Street. Authorities have classified the incident as an isolated, targeted act. A person of interest and his vehicle have been located, and detectives are currently in communication with him. This incident adds to a series of recent shootings in the Walterboro area. In May 2025, deputies were involved in a fatal shooting during a welfare check on a 55-year-old man who had reportedly expressed suicidal thoughts. The deputy involved was cleared of wrongdoing after an investigation concluded that the use of deadly force was justified.
Additionally, in August 2019, a man was fatally shot on Francis Street in Walterboro. The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office is actively working to solve these cases and bring justice to the victims and their families.
