The Saints just sign in Clyde Edwards-Helaire on a Two-year deal⬇️

Clyde Edwards-Helaire, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, has re-signed with the New Orleans Saints on a one-year contract. This move comes after a brief tenure with the Saints at the end of the 2024 season, during which he showcased his versatility and potential.

Background and Career Highlights

Edwards-Helaire was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs as the 32nd overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, he made an immediate impact, rushing for 803 yards and four touchdowns, while also contributing 297 receiving yards and one touchdown. His performance was instrumental in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LV appearance, where he recorded 64 rushing yards and 23 receiving yards.

Over the next few seasons, Edwards-Helaire faced challenges with injuries and competition for the starting role, leading to a decline in his production. Despite these setbacks, he remained a valuable asset to the Chiefs, contributing to their Super Bowl LVII victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Transition to the New Orleans Saints

In December 2024, after being released by the Chiefs, Edwards-Helaire signed with the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad. His Louisiana roots, being a Baton Rouge native and former LSU star, made the transition seamless. He was elevated to the active roster for the final game of the 2024 season against the Las Vegas Raiders, where he recorded five carries for 36 yards and three receptions for 24 yards.

Re-Signing with the Saints

Recognizing his potential and fit within their offensive scheme, the Saints re-signed Edwards-Helaire to a one-year contract on February 13, 2025. This decision aims to bolster the team’s running back depth, providing a reliable complement to veteran Alvin Kamara. Edwards-Helaire’s versatility and experience are expected to enhance the Saints’ backfield options for the upcoming season.

Looking Ahead

As Edwards-Helaire prepares for the 2025 season with the Saints, his familiarity with the team’s system and his Louisiana connection are anticipated to contribute positively to his performance. The Saints’ coaching staff will look to leverage his skills to strengthen their offensive lineup, aiming for a successful season ahead.
