It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that Orlando Pirates Football Club announces the passing of our esteemed coach, Coach Samuel “Sam” Mbatha. Coach Mbatha, 60, passed away peacefully yesterday evening after a brief illness.

Coach Mbatha was more than just a coach; he was a pillar of strength and wisdom within the Orlando Pirates family. His journey with the club spanned over two decades, during which he made an indelible mark on the team and the sport of football in South Africa. Known for his tactical acumen, passion for the game, and unwavering dedication to his players, Coach Mbatha inspired generations of athletes with his leadership on and off the field.

“Sam was a true legend of the game and a beloved member of our Orlando Pirates family,” said Dr. Thandi Mkhize, the club’s Chairman. “His impact on our players and the entire football community in South Africa cannot be overstated. He was not just a coach but a mentor and a friend to many.”
