Former Florida State quarterback Marcus Outzen passed away at the age of 46 on May 1, 2024, after battling a rare immune deficiency disorder known as Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). Outzen, who earned the nickname ‘The Rooster’ for his red hair, was recently diagnosed with HLH, a severe systemic inflammatory syndrome【42†source】【43†source】.

Outzen is best remembered for his time at Florida State University (FSU) from 1996 to 2000, particularly stepping into the starting role during the 1998 season after quarterback Chris Weinke suffered a neck injury.
