Done deal: Washington Commanders have finally complete the deal of Russell Wilson to replace…

Finding a replacement for Sam Howell will dominate the Washington Commander’s offseason. The franchise needs to finally install a proven quarterback like Super Bowl winner Russell Wilson. The Commanders are a good landing spot for the nine-time Pro Bowler, according to CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin. He noted that “Wilson has ties to the area; he grew up in Virginia, a few hours from the team’s facilities.”Benjamin cautioned that “an early draft seems much more likely,” but Wilson is an interesting solution to Washington’s long-term QB dilemma. He hit rock bottom after signing a $242.5 million contract with the Denver Broncos through 2022, but there’s reason to believe Wilson can get back on track.Reasons why the Broncos rarely play to their strengths. Their strengths include throwing deep bootlegs and passing games.Wilson would certainly have more freedom in the transition required by coordinator Eric Bieniemy. The 35-year-old signal caller would also have better weapons at his disposal.Commanders have the right frame for Russell Wilson. It’s safe to assume that Bieniemy will continue under head coach Ron Rivera, so the Commanders would be wise to provide OC with an established QB1. Wilson continues to decline even though the Broncos are ready to release him less than two years after his blockbuster with the Seattle Seahawks.Veteran revealed how his contractual injury settlement led to his death in Denver, The 33rd Team reports. He will be sidelined for the next two weeks, but according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russin, Wilson expects to have surgery in March.A quarterback with Wilson pedigree hitting the market is too good an opportunity for commanders to pass up. Especially if the Chiefs have the right frame to help Wilson rediscover his pre-Broncos form.Bieniemy’s wide scheme and experience working with mobile quarterbacks like Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes as a play caller for the Patrick Mahomes Chiefs was a good fit for Wilson. So would wide receivers like Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson and running back Brian Robinson Jr.The Commanders have the supporting cast Wilson needs to succeed if Bieniemy allows him to play like he did with the Super Bowl Seahawks after the 2013 season. That would mean more passing games, which the Broncos have used effectively at times this season. NFL Films producer Greg Cosell highlighted Wilson’s recent success in play-action.Allowing Wilson to play to his strengths would set a good example for Howell, who remains valuable to commanders.Sam Howell may still have a future with the CommandersHowell’s time with the Commanders may not be over, despite being in favor of Jacoby Brissett. The latter’s hamstring injury puts Howell right back as the starter, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.Starting two more games would allow Howell to prove that he still has value to Commanders in addition to being a mark. He should until more is done to incorporate his dual threat skills into the offense.Wilson would be a great artifact for Howell. The 5-foot-1 passer needs the turns and feet to avoid pressure and create usable throws.Howell, all 6-foot of him, was sacked 60 times and struggled to find many empty passing lanes. An offense designed around Wilson and led by Howell would benefit the latter in a year or two.It would also mean the Commanders would get possession of a marketable star who plays the most important position in football for at least a year. Owner Josh Harris doesn’t have to worry about Wilson’s upcoming contract. Not when Spotrac.com estimates the Commanders have $90.9 million under the salary cap, enough to solve the QB problem..
