ALLEN PARK – Russell Wilson hasn’t exactly recovered from his disastrous first season with the Denver Broncos. The veteran quarterback is back to being a smooth, deep ball specialist who has been a killer in the red zone amid this hot streak.The Broncos started the year 1-5 and have won six of their last seven to move within striking distance of the AFC West and the playoffs. And while the defense has improved wildly since the Miami Dolphins scored 70 points, Wilson has been sharp and clean.”I think he’s playing with confidence,” Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn said. – I think the coaching staff has made a system with him where he is comfortable and lets him use his legs. Let him throw the deep ball, which he is always very, very good at. So we have to be very aware of that in the secondary.”So man, you can clearly see that they built a system to help him and that’s why he plays the way he plays.”Wilson is completing 67.2% of his passes, the third best of his career, with 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Pro Football Focus ranks him 14th among all quarterbacks, one spot behind Jared Goff.And Glenn is not wrong about Denver’s new coaching staff. The Broncos hired Sean Payton, and while it’s been a slow start, it’s hard to miss the growth and comfort this team has shown in the second half of the season.”That means we better be on our hands because he’s going to come in here and try to embarrass us,” Campbell said of Payton and the Broncos. “That’s what it means. And so, that’s our motivation, that’s my motivation, and that’s to win. We’ve just got to find a way to win, we’ve got to be at our best, and we will be. at our best.”Glenn knows Payton better than anyone, having spent four seasons as second coach on his staff in New Orleans before landing in Detroit. And Dan Campbell was right there with him, coaching the tight ends and serving as Payton’s assistant head coach during that time.Denver’s rushing attack ranked in the top 10 in the league with 4.3 yards per attempt, and its offense is about protecting the ball. You see it on film, when he’s comfortable and he can move the ball, you have to be ready for that. I guess it’s just part of the league. There are ups and downs. And the people who can stay consistent and keep working tend to come out in the end.”.
