Sad news: 7-Players are now set to leave Detroit Lions…

Now that the Detroit Lions have been eliminated from the postseason, Brad Holmes and the team’s front office have plenty of time to look ahead to the offseason.Holmes and Co. should be busy not only adding players for another run in the playoffs, but also keeping the people who have been key to their success this year and the postseason.Holmes also has to make some difficult decisions and separate some of the current members of the organization.Without further ado, let’s take a look at five Lions players who may not return to the team in 2024.WR Josh ReynoldsDuring the regular season, Reynolds proved to be one of Jared Goffand#039; the most reliable targets (40 catches, 608 yards and five touchdowns). He and Goff developed a strong relationship during their time with the Rams (2017-2020), which certainly continued for the two during their final three seasons in Detroit.Unfortunately, Reynolds is not remembered for anything like this. Head #039 will be remembered for the Lions’ failure in the NFC title game, especially because of Goff’s pass in the third quarter. It was the beginning of an unfortunate series of events for the Detroit quarterback, and Goff and Co. never recovered.Reynolds threw three total passes in the playoffs and earned a paltry 51.6 PFF grade for his poor effort. The veteran receiver is an unrestricted free agent this season, so this could very well be his last game with the Lions.LG Jonah JacksonJackson has been a staple on the Lions offensive line since the organization drafted him in 2020.Good#039; However, he is a free agent this offseason and his time in the Motor City could be over.Jackson, a 2021 Pro Bowler, saw his production dip last season when he matched a career high of 12 games and 798 tackles. He also posted PFF run blocking grades north of 70.0 in 2021 and 2022 after posting a career-worst 58.2 in 2023. He also allowed eight quarterback hits and 24 pressures to earn a 59.7 grade from PFF.To me, Jackson’s decline in production could mean the Lions get a new starting left guard in 2024.OL Halapoulivaati VaitaiVaitai hasn’t been able to stay healthy since day one in the motor city. However, the injury bug has reared a particularly ugly head for the veteran quarterback over the past two seasons. In 2022 and 2023, he played in just six games combined and didn’t record a single snap in ’22.Defensively, he posted respectable overall grades of 68.4 and 68.3 in 2021 and 2023, respectively. However, since he will be a free agent this coming offseason, I don’t think Holmes’ paths as a big lineman will diverge. than they are now.OL Graham GlasgowGlasgow was a solid under-the-radar acquisition by Holmes last offseason. The veteran offensive lineman, who spent the first four seasons of his career in Detroit, returned to Motown in 2023 for another run with the Lions. He spent the previous three seasons in Denver.Glasgow was excellent inside the plug-and-play offensive line, handling spots in the middle and at both guard spots. Most notably, he replaced the oft-injured Halapoulivaati Vaitai as Detroit’s full-time starter at right guard and secured the position. He totaled 1,061 offensive snaps with just two sacks and seamlessly opened up running lanes for the Lions’ backfield tandem of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. He earned an 82.1 grade on Pro Football Focus for run blocking. He also received an overall rating of 75.1 from the popular analysis site.I’m sure the Lions want him on their 2024 roster. However, Holmes only signed him to a one-year contract last season. So there is no guarantee that the skilled guard will return to Detroit next season.DB Ceedy DuceDuce who came to Lions C.J. Gardner-Johnson struggled to stay on the field in what could end up being his only season in the Motor City. He only signed a one-year deal last season and was definitely ineligible in 2023.The veteran defensive back tore his pectoral muscle in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks and was unable to play until the Lions’ regular-season finale against the Vikings. In his limited playing time (only three regular season matches), Duce had one interception and three passes defended and earned a total grade of 72.7 from PFF.Those numbers weren’t too bad. However, in the conference championship game, he laid an egg against Deebo Samuel and the 49ers. He missed three tackles, had a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty on Samuel and posted a team-worst 33.9 PFF overall grade. Even worse, he got into a war of words with Samuel before the game and survived an on-field battle with the wide receiver..
