Done deal: Ipswich Town are now set to welcome two familiar faces at Portman Road Stadium…

Ipswich Town are currently second in the Championship and fighting for promotion to the Premier League. They have made three signings this window and should favor striker Sam Gallagher and left back Marvin Johnson.Gallagher would directly replace the injured George Hirst, while Johnson would provide decisive cover for Leif Davis.Ipswich Town are having a great season so far.In their first season back in the Championship after a four-year absence, the Tractor Boys are chasing ever higher progress from league to premier league.Kieran McKenna’s side are in the automatic promotion places, currently second. They are just one point ahead of third-placed Southampton and two ahead of fourth-placed Leeds United.Town have already made three signings this window including Ali Al-Hamadi, Jeremy Sarmiento and Lewis Travis to boost their hopes of success. The only notable departure so far is Freddie Ladapo, who has joined Charlton Athletic on loan for the rest of the season. Here we look at two transfers that Ipswich must prioritize before the January transfer window closes. According to Alan Nixon,Ipswich have made a bid for Blackburn Rovers striker Sam Gallagher.Ipswich reportedly offered a three-year deal but two bids for Gallagher were rejected – both worth £1m and £1.5m.Gallagher’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season, but the club has the option to extend his contract by another year.Ipswich’s hunt for a striker was well documented after George Hirst’s season-ending injury and Ladapo’s departure.Al-Hamadi was brought in from AFC Wimbledon but cannot be expected to hit the ground running as he jumps up two divisions from League Two.Gallagher is an experienced striker at Championship level and at 28 is in his prime. The former England U19 international has similar qualities to George Hirst, being very strong in the air, keen to press and ready to run in from the back.So he would be a good direct replacement for Hirst and his possible arrival would take some pressure off Al-Hamad.Ipswich have rejected a £1million bid for Sheffield Wednesday left-back Marvin Johnson, according to Alex Crook.Johnson was suspended with the Wednesday team by their former manager Xisco Munoz at the start of the season, but was brought back into the squad by new boss Danny Rohl.Since returning to the team, Johnson has become an integral part of the Owls team. This season, he scored three goals and provided two assists in 14 Champions League matches.Capable of playing anywhere on the left side, Johnson could be a solid backup for Leif Davis.Davis is arguably Ipswich’s best player so far this season, with ten assists in 25 league games, more than only Southampton’s Adam Armstrong. If the 24-year-old gets injured it could have a huge impact on Ipswich, so bringing in left cover to rotate Davis a bit and keep him fit could be key.Johnson is a good option if you want someone to create chances on the left and is a good ball carrier like Davis. At 33, he would probably be a short-term option, but his experience could be crucial for Ipswich..
