Former Falcons head coach Arthur Smith interviews for Steelers offensive coordinator position.

Former Falcons head coach Arthur Smith will interview with the Steelers on Sunday for their offensive coordinator position, sources told the Post-Gazette. He is the third candidate to interview in the past week, joining Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson and former Carolina offensive coordinator Thomas Brown. Smith coached the Falcons last season through 2021. He was 7-10 in each season during his three-year tenure and never made the postseason. Last season, the Falcons ranked 17th in the NFL in total offense and 26th in scoring. However, Smith was a well-regarded offensive coordinator with the Titans in 2019 and 2020 before moving to Atlanta. The Titans reached the 2019 AFC Championship Game before losing to the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. In 2019, the Titans ranked 10th in the league in scoring and total offense. In 2020, when they lost to the Ravens in the AFC wild-card game, they were third in total offense and fourth in scoring. Prior to serving as offensive coordinator under Mike Vrabel, Smith worked under two other head coaches at Tennessee, former Steeles offensive line coach Mike Munchak and former Steeles offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt. Smith served as the Titans’ offensive line coach in 2013 and as an assistant coach in 2014 and 2015. In 2016-2018, he was a coach. He also served as an assistant coach at North Carolina, his alma mater, and Ole Miss University and the Washington Commanders before joining the Titans in 2011 as the quality control coach. The Steelers planned to interview former Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Robinson, but he ended up taking the Falcons’ offensive coordinator position under their new head coach Raheem Morris. Robinson and Morris trained with the Rams and are close friends..
