Done deal: Three free-agent are now set to join Broncos on…

Three free agents who could help the Broncos in 24.

After another disappointing season, the Denver Broncos have a lot of tough decisions to make in the offseason.Their priority is to find a starting quarterback and decide whether to move on to replace Russell Wilson, draft a quarterback or look for someone else on the market. The Broncos have another major issue to deal with this offseason, though it’s not as pressing. Courtland Sutton had a productive 2023, but no one else in that space has produced at a high level this year.Jerry Jeudy had a season full of dropped passes and missed opportunities, Marvin Mims barely got the playing time he deserved, Lil’ Jordan Humphrey was a good backup and tight end Adam Troutman was average at best. The Broncos are expected to move on from either Sutton or Jeudy in the offseason. And Tim Patrick is unlikely to return to the team after missing two seasons due to injuries.Mims has the potential to be #1 one day and is a great player to start building this space. While either Jeudy or Sutton will likely be traded in the offseason, the Broncos should keep Sutton and trade Jeudy.Jeudy spent a few seasons in Denver and it seems that it is no longer a good fit for him. With his rookie contract expiring soon, it would be a good idea to trade him and get something in exchange for letting him hit free agency. Jeudy is worth more than Sutton in the deal, and if they part ways with Jeudy, the team could get a second- or third-round draft pick. The Broncos must find a way to upgrade their wide receiver room in the offseason. And there are some free agents available for them. While Wilson’s contract situation makes it difficult for the Broncos to acquire top talent, it may be possible to acquire one of these guys through strategic contract negotiations. With several veteran free agents on the market, the Broncos could go for Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans. He had his 10th straight 1,000-yard season and shows no signs of slowing down. His veteran presence would also be a great addition to a young wide receiver.Another free agent on the market the Broncos could be looking at is Bruins wideout Darnell Mooney. In his second year in the league, he caught 81 passes for 1,055 yards and four touchdowns in 2021. Since his breakout year, he’s dealt with a series of minor injuries and had a dysfunctional Bears team that kept him from playing the past two seasons. With the right coach and quarterback, he could be the best receiver in the league.A third player the Broncos could target in free agency this year is Bengals lineman Tyler Boyd. He had 67 receptions for 667 yards and two touchdowns this season. He is a big receiver who can dominate the middle of the field and rarely drops the ball. He would be a great replacement for Sutton if he had to be replaced. While the Broncos have a lot of tough decisions to make this offseason, adding to their wide receiver ranks is a top priority. It will be interesting to see how Payton handles the situation through free agency, trades or the draft..
