Done deal: The Yankees have finally won the race of the young utility player that worth…

The Yankees have been linked to a few relievers in their pursuit of bullpen reinforcements. One name that has popped up in numerous reports is Héctor Neris.

But speaking on YES Network on Tuesday, MLB insider Jack Curry downplayed the possibility of that union and instead pointed to two other relief options.

“They’ve had conversations about Wandy Peralta,” he said. “They’ve had conversations about [Keynan] Middleton, who actually pitched well for them last season. Héctor Neris is a name that is out there on the market, and the Yankees have been tied to him through several reports. Now, I have been told not to expect a partnership between the two of them, but all it takes is one text or one phone call or someone taking whatever their demand was and lowering it, or someone taking whatever their offer was and heightening it, but I think they were more pushing towards a Peralta or a Middleton reunion.”

Peralta has been reliable for the Yankees over the last three years, and in 2023, he put up a 2.83 ERA with four saves in 63 appearances. His 2023 season ended on the injured list with a minor left triceps strain.

The Yankees acquired Middleton at this year’s trade deadline, and he spent most of September on the injured list with a shoulder injury. In the 13 1/3 innings pitched for New York, he gave up just one earned run and struck out 17 batters.
