Done deal: Ohio State now set to announce Former Penn State Head Coach as their new offensive coordinator…

Former Penn State Head Coach Bill O’Brien To Be Named Ohio State Offensive Coordinator

After one season with the New England Patriots, former Nittany Lion head coach Bill O’Brien is back in college football, and it’s on Penn State’s 2024 schedule: the Ohio State Buckeyes.Sources: Ohio State hires longtime NFL head coach Bill O’Brien as school’s new offensive coordinator. O’Brien spent last season as the Patriots’ offensive coordinator in 2023 and was the head coach of the Texans and Big Ten Penn State.O’Brien spent seven seasons as the head coach of the Houston Texans before spending the 2021 and 2022 seasons as Alabama’s offensive coordinator. With the Crimson Tide, O’Brien helped Bryce Young win the Heisman Trophy as a sophomore and was later selected No. 1 overall by the Carolina Panthers in the 2023 NFL Draft. He jumped back into the NFL ranks to be the offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots, but with Bill Belichick and Jerod Mayo, O’Brien is returning to the college game. For Penn State fans, this is obviously weird. It’s not every day that your former head coach becomes an assistant coach in your direct competition. I will always love and appreciate TP’s moments, but the thought of seeing him in Beaver Stadium next season in scarlet and gray…tough.Oddly enough, the college football world *doesn’t* seem to love this Buckeyes employee.Ohio State hired Ross Björk and Bill O’Brien in the last 48 hours. Are we sure they are not dangerous to ourselves or others?”Why does everything seem so difficult against the attack?”This was a common question during the Bill O’Brien era when selecting a QB at the top of the draft.Ohio State fans have been in inconsistent hell all season, especially in big games.Personally, I think O’Brien is a good hire, though certainly not the hot Ohio State fans were hoping for. More than anything, I think he’s an oddity in Ohio State’s offense that has been trending. Sure, they get Emeka Egbuka back, but with Quinshon Judkins transferring, TreVeyon Henderson returning and Will Howard transferring from Kansas State, this offense looks more like a run-oriented offense. Not sure O’Brien is quite done with that.Anyway, imagine if you said in January 2012 that Bill O’Brien and Larry Johnson Sr. still coaching each other in the varsity program. Strange how life goes..
